Master of Illusions

The three kids and I attended Jay Owenhouse’s magic show yesterday.  This was their first magic show so the thought of watching mysterious magic like Harry Potter and seeing a tiger named Sheer-Kan was almost too much to wait for.

Since I was wrangling all three myself while Kimmelin taught a Saturday childbirth class, this left me little room to think too much.  I was in pure parental execution mode trying to keep all three managed prior and during the show.  Luckily, they did awesome. Even our little one managed to stay entertained for 40 minutes of the show.

I really enjoyed the show because I wasn’t trying to figure the illusions out.  I guess I didn’t really have a choice watching three little kids.  I just sat and enjoyed the show like a 5 year old.  Jay is a fascinating magician and entertainer.

It is a good reminder to all of us Gen X’ers (who seem to question everything in life) that sometimes it is good to just take things at face value and enjoy them.  I have no idea how Jay Owenhouse does his tricks.  It is magic to me and I don’t want to know.  I will gladly stay in 5 year old land for awhile.

PS – My grandfather was a magician.  I guess it is not an inherited trait like Harry Potter.  Bummer.
